Alero Awala
I qualified in Nigeria and trained in the Southwest of England. I developed a special interest in reproductive medicine and gynaecology scanning along the way. My masters in reproductive medicine was awarded by the University of Bristol and I also have the postgraduate certificate in medical education. I am the lead for Emergency Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Services in the department and am Gynaecology risk lead.
My training encompassed all aspects of fertility and gynaecological endocrinology. I therefore have a special interest in adolescent and menopausal health, PCOS, fertility investigations and management along with early pregnancy problems such as recurrent miscarriages, ectopic pregnancy etc. With regards menopause I am also keen on non traditional forms of treatment if patients are unable to use hormone based therapy for any reason.
In my NHS practice I run the early pregnancy and acute gynaecology services, along with the newly developed ambulatory unit. I am also very keen on risk management and regularly audit my own practice to ensure that I provide the best evidenced based care available.

I have been a consultant for over 10 years and I am therefore very experienced in the management of a wide range of common gynaecological conditions and their relevant surgeries. I also work closely with other colleagues such as general and breast surgeons and endocrinologists to ensure patients have access to the appropriate speciality if required.
